Joplin, MO 3 months later

I just posted an album of photos I took in Joplin, MO yesterday covering the mind boggling destruction path that the F-5 tornado left behind on May 22, 2011.

Living in the south certainly has it's disadvantages, tornado's being right up there at the top of the list. After seeing the damage done by this unstoppable force it made me realize how often we take these warnings for granted. We have heard the tornado sirens go off so often at times that it almost becomes a non issue but PLEASE don't ever take these situations lightly, in a matter of minutes lives can be lost, homes destroyed, businesses ruined and memories embedded into our minds that will never leave us.

As I walked around just awe struck by what was laying in front of me I started to think about all the things my family and I are SO lucky to have, most importantly (each other) which can never be replaced. Although the house can be rebuilt, furniture can be replaced, new toys can be bought, and countless other items renewed the one thing that really stuck with me is the fact that 159 people lost there lives that day. Some gave their lives to save others, and some just simply had no way of getting to a safer place. This made me appreciate even more, the fact that WHAT we have is not as important as WHO we have in our lives and the fact that TIME and not POSSESSIONS is the most valuable asset in the world.

PLEASE!!! look at the photos and as you do, remember that it's the loved one's in our lives that make the difference. Tell those you care about that you love them every chance you get and most importantly, make good use of the short but valuable TIME that GOD has given us with one another because in a matter of minutes it can all be lost.
